Christ the King Students Care: Tradition Proves it
Christ the King students raised just over $4,000 this year for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. That alone is an impressive number, but considering it has given a total of $92,364.65 over the past 19 years since Susie Cooney began the Math-a-Thon, which is an average of $4,861.26 per year. Since 1986, CTKS rates 6th in the entire state of donors to St. Jude’s and 2nd overall in the city of Jacksonville.
This year the top classes were:
•1st Place: Mrs. Fowler – 3rd Grade
•2nd Place: Mrs. Goodbread – Kindergarten B
•3rd Place: Mrs. Ruhl – 2nd Grade
On a related topic of giving, Christ the King kindergarten classes raised $300 during Catholic Schools Week and learned a lesson in math on a field trip to Publix in March. With the funds, the classes divided into small groups and a shopping list to provide food to the St. Vincent DePaul Pantry to help create grocery bags and Easter baskets for the needy.
