Are Duval County’s Public Schools Dumbing Down Local Students?
There was a very interesting article in this past Sunday’s Florida Times-Union regarding the retentive affects of Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton’s early literacy program that has been in effect since 2004 and was designed to increase the literacy of disadvantaged kids. It turns out that once these kids enter the local public school system, they lose any literacy advantage they had over other kids who did not participate in the program by the time they enter third grade.
